Pattie Ruffner Jacobs was one of the foremost crusaders for women’s right to vote in Alabama. She was elected president of the Alabama Equal Suffrage Association in 1912, the youngest president of any state suffrage association in the United States, and eventually served on the board of the National American Woman Suffrage Association. Jacobs also worked tirelessly to abolish convict leasing and child labor. Jacobs was inducted into the Alabama Women’s Hall of Fame in 1978.
