Alabama Shakes is a Grammy-winning American soul and blues rock band that formed in Athens, Limestone County, in 2009. Lead by singer and guitarist Brittany Howard, the Shakes’ debut album, Boys & Girls, garnered immediate praise and comparisons to classic Motown and Muscle Shoals styles. Their follow-up, Sound & Color, debuted at number one on the Billboard charts, went gold within a year, and won four Grammys. Howard has also launched a successful solo career, releasing the critically-acclaimed Jaime in 2019.
