Ruby Pickens Tartt was one of the foremost chroniclers of folklore, folk music, and narratives of African Americans in rural Alabama.  She helped to fill the manuscript and music collections of the Library of Congress and the Federal Writers’ Project. Ruby Pickens Tartt continues to affect the world of folk music and culture as her notes are rediscovered by a new generation of scholars and musicians. She was inducted into the Alabama Women’s Hall of Fame in 1980.
